CHAD JONES
CHAD JONES

Jonesy's back! - After missing the latter part of last season with a bad hamstring injury full forward Chad Jones is getting close to a return. We caught up with him after training.
Firstly how’s the injury going?
Yeah it’s been a long pre-season of rehab but it all seems to be going well and going to plan so fingers crossed I’ll be ready for round one.
What about the practice games?
Not sure about the practice games, we’ll see how the injury goes over the next month. We’re not putting any set dates on a return but I am hoping I can get up for the start of the season and work my way into it.
What was it like having to watch from the sidelines in the latter part of last season especially the grand final?
It was weird not being a part of it but it would have hurt the boys a lot more who were out there, win or lose it would have been good to have played but injuries are a part of footy. Tell us about your method for kicking at goal do you have a set routine you go through?
Yeah I do have a set routine I have used for years now, it’s pretty much ingrained so I don’t have to think much about it.
What are the main points to the routine?
It’s just a certain amount of steps and focusing on dropping the ball properly then kicking through the ball.
Is there an end you favour here at Claremont?
No not at all, either end is fine.
Why do you think the traditional full forward is pretty much a thing of the past in modern day footy?
You still see it at WAFL level and in the amateurs but it’s different in the AFL. The game is so fast at that level and most players can adapt to playing any position or have to play different positions for the team to succeed.
Any personal goals this year? To kick 100 goals perhaps?
No I haven’t set any goals I just want to be there towards the end of the year I think we have a good enough squad that we can push to play finals and hopefully another grand final so that will be my goal to make sure I am right to go if we make it.
The best full back you have played on?
They’re all pretty good! You always have good battles with certain ones. No matter who the full back is it helps when you get the amount of ball in we did last year and the quality of the midfielders we have. It’s not always the full back’s fault as they’ll tell you just like our defenders would tell you. There’s not much you can do when the ball is coming in as fast and as often as it did for us last year so hopefully we can repeat that this season.
Who did you support growing up?
North Melbourne
And you’re junior footy who was that with?
Wembley Downs
And what do you do off the field?
At the moment I manage the AFL stores during the day which is full time and I do a bit of part time uni. I’m doing a marketing and sports management degree so I do that externally.
