Tigers Secure Top Spot

Monday, August 31, 2015 - 10:58 AM by Dan Scamozzi

Claremont (Colts) have secured top position and a bye in the first week of finals after an 83-point win over West Perth at HBF Arena.

The 17.16 (118) to 5.5 (35) thumping sees the Tigers finish in first position on the ladder with 14 wins and was built on the back of a dominant display by all involved.

No Tiger finished with 20 disposals or more, yet coach Ross McQueen’s team had 11 individual goal kickers and an appetite for the contest.

The skill and poise of Declan Mountford, Sam Petrevski-Seton and Keanu Shandley were a sight to behold, while Morgan Davies and Matt Guelfi were tireless workers.

Jeremy Goddard was a tower of strength in the ruck and around the ground, Cameron Wilson layed 11 tackles and Jake Waterman, Eddie Simpson and Davies all kicked three goals.

Add in the gut running of Ryan Murphy and Jacob Sideris, and what you got was one of the Tigers’ best wins this season.

An ability to keep the Falcons goalless in the second and final terms was achieved by team defence, while eight second-half goals by the Tigers highlighted a fierce determination that has the team well placed to go one better in 2015.
