Rohr Excels in the Ruck
By Ken Casellas
A dominant performance in the ruck from Max Rohr was one of the most pleasing highlights in the Claremont reserves side’s practice match against South Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday.
Not only did the 18-year-old excel in his battles with Anton Hanson and Baiden Parsons with 28 hit-outs, he had ten kicks, made six effective handpasses and laid two tackles.
Four goals to South’s stylish left-footer Brandon Donaldson, a veteran of 114 league games, was probably the difference between the sides, with the visitors winning, 11.9 (75) to 8.8 (56).
Nevertheless, Claremont’s defensive play was most encouraging, with Jasper Peace a stumbling block at centre-half-back, and receiving splendid support from Tristan and Seb Ballard, Darcy Redman, Ed Greenaway, Campbell Rogers and Sean Williams.
Sam van Rooyen made the most of his opportunities at centre-half-forward to score three of his side’s eight goals. Small forward Lawrence Evans stood out with his pace and strong tackling, and it was his excellent pass which gave van Rooyen his first goal. Evans was rewarded for his hard work with a mark and a goal late in the match.
Kai Dehavilland and Ashton Bryant were shining lights in the midfield, while Bailey Banfield and Heath Ravenhill were strong contributors on the wings.
Details:
South Fremantle 11.9 (75) beat Claremont 8.8 (56).
