KIMBERLEY TALENT
The Claremont Football Club were proud to unleash the latest two products of its Kimberley zone over the weekend, with Reece Gordon (Halls Creek) and Taylen Bin Busu (Kununurra) making their Claremont Colts debuts in the team’s win over East Perth at Leederville Oval on Saturday.
Both boys have been on different journeys to reach their debuts, but have quickly become popular members of the Colts playing group.
Claremont Acting Talent Manager Jordan Smith said the debuts were well deserved and great stories for the football club.
“Reece is a versatile player who we’ve looked to use across half back so far. He came to us for a brief training stint last season, before completing much of this year’s preseason training program as part of the squad.
“Being a boarder at Clontarf, unfortunately Reece had to head home during the height of the COVID period in Perth, but has been back with us for a month or so now and has deserved his opportunity to play on the weekend.”
“Taylen has a very interesting story – eventually ending up with us after stints in the Northern Territory and Victoria. Again, through circumstance with the COVID outbreak over east, headed back to WA and made his way to Claremont being a Kimberley boy.
“Taylen is a very athletic player who also demonstrates handy versatility and certainly provides some exciting moments.”
“Both boys have bought into our program really well and are great role models for their communities back home in the Kimberley.”
The pair are the latest in a long and rich history of Kimberley products to play for the Tigers, including Colts players from last season, Isaiah Butters, Liam Henry, Leno Thomas, Seth Roberts and Quentin Shandley.
“The relationship with our Kimberley zone is obviously a critical one for us and it’s a credit to Carl Merrison and the crew up there involved with the Kimberley Spirit that we are able to keep providing opportunities for these talented young men to succeed down in Perth.”
We look forward to following Reece and Taylen’s progress as the latest members of our storied Kimberley production line.
