Tigers Outclassed By Lions | Round 3 Reserves Match Report
Claremont’s Reserves’ (Development) have lost their first game of the season after being well and truly outplayed by Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval.
In a one-sided match, the Lions proved far too good, running out 107 point winners 21.19 (145) to 6.2 (38).
In an ideal start for the Lions, Kyle Halligan kicked truly in the opening minute of the game to hand the side an early lead.
With the Lions dominating the early stages, Jordan Bestry kicked the first of his five majors to give the Lions their second, six minutes into the contest.
The Tigers took all of eight minutes to register their first I50m entry, before Jayden Brooks kicked the team’s first goal after being well set up by Kiefer Yu.
However, goals to Dylan Clarke and Sean Bradley gave the Lions an early break, before Shane McAdam’s goal at the 22 minute mark saw the Tigers trail by 16 points at quarter time.
The scoreboard somewhat flattered the Tigers, with Subiaco’s pressure resulting in several turnovers and an over-reliance on handball.
The start to the second term mirrored the first, with the Lions completely dominating the opening stages despite wastefulness in front of goal.
The Lions added four consecutive behinds as they peppered the Tigers, with Claremont unable to clear the ball from their defence.
Halligan’s second goal at the ten minute mark saw the lead extended to 26 points, before a second to Clarke saw the lead pushed out to 33 at the halfway stage of the term.
A third to Clarke minutes later saw the lead blow out to 40 points and suddenly the Lions had a stranglehold on the game.
A quick reply from the hard-working Ben Daniher saw the margin reduced to 34, before a goal to Dane Stephen on the stroke of half time saw the Lions lead by 40 points at the major break.
Although the Tigers had 21 more disposals in the first half, the pressure from the Lions was resulting in constant turnovers, with their wasteful kicking in front of goal (21 shots to four) providing the only solace for Claremont in a disappointing opening half of football.
What the Tigers needed was a fast start to the second half. This was not the case as the Lions kicked the first two goals through David Madut and Bestry (second).
When Clancy Wheeler got in on the action with a thumping goal at the 16 minute mark of the term, the Lions were out to a 63 point lead.
The Tigers replied through Evan Panizza, however, Bestry kicked his third major to restore parity.
When McAdam and Jordan McAllister kicked consecutive goals for the Tigers the lead was cut back to 51 points, although a late goal to Bradley saw the Lions lead by 57 points at the last change.
With Tigers coach Nigel Wilson happy that his team showed a bit more during the term, he instructed his players to put their hand up and run out the game.
However, as had been the case all game, the Lions had all the answers, kicking the opening four goals of the last term, including Bestry and Clarke registering their fourth majors.
Darcy Boyle got his first for the day at the 16 minute mark, before the dominant Bestry kicked his fifth of the game, remarkably coming from only six kicks and suddenly a three-figure winning margin was on the cards.
This proved to be the case through two late goals, including a third to Garcia, giving the Lions a resounding victory and leaving the Tigers to lick their wounds ahead of next rounds fixture against East Fremantle at the same venue.
