Round 16 Development Report - South Fremantle v Claremont
Tigers in Seventh Heaven
by Dan Scamozzi
Claremont (Reserves) recorded its seventh straight win after thumping South Fremantle by 50 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in Round 16.
The 11.8 (74) to 2.12 (24) result means the Tigers have replaced the Bulldogs in second position on the ladder after restricting the hosts to their lowest score for the season.
After taking a nine-point lead at the first change in shocking conditions, the Tigers slammed on eight goals to one after quarter-time to maintain their terrific form ahead of a bye this weekend.
Bailey Banfield starred on debut with 24 disposals, seven tackles and two goals, while Matt Davies also kicked two as he works his way back from a hamstring injury.
Ruckman Jeremy Goddard was another to impress on debut as the big man amassed 54 hit outs to feed Claremont’s midfield.
Banfield, Zac Langdon (12 tackles), Lachlan Martinis and Ben Musitano all performed strongly as the Tigers restricted the Bulldogs to just two goals.
Claremont will now cool its heels ahead of a clash with top-of-the-table East Perth at the Showgrounds in Round 18.
Meanwhile, Claremont saw its four-game winning run come to an end in the Colts after the Tigers were defeated 8.10 (58) to 9.9 (63) by South Fremantle.
