NAIDOC Round 16 Preview South Fremantle v Claremont
By Dan Scamozzi
Claremont will be looking to end a three-game losing streak and record its fourth win of the season when it faces second-placed South Fremantle in NAIDOC Round at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.
NAIDOC Round celebrates the heritage, achievements and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Claremont and South Fremantle instigated WAFL NAIDOC Round in 2007 when they wore jumpers designed by Aboriginal artist Richard Walley. The two teams will also compete for the Jimmy Melbourne Cup on Saturday. Claremont will look to maintain their winning steak as they have won the Cup 6 of 7 times since 2007.
All WAFL clubs playing in the Round will wear uniforms designed to represent the heritage of the clubs and their indigenous players.
The Tigers suffered a four-point loss to Perth last Saturday – their sixth defeat by under 10 points – and need a win as they look to rebound from what’s been a disappointing season to date.
Jack Bradshaw will be unavailable after being handed a one-match ban for striking, however, Keifer Yu will be free to play after accepting a reprimand for the same charge.
Chris Oakley will also be free to play after having his charge for rough conduct dismissed.
Meanwhile, Tom Ledger is set to line up in his 50th game for the club.
Tom is having a terrific season, and in a sign of his consistency and durability, has not missed a League game since Round 15, 2014.
The club encourages all members and fans to attend the game and cheer on the mighty Tigers!
Bounce down is 2.40pm, following Reserves at 11.50am and Colts at 9.20am
